Why this exists

Monet is the most reproduced painter in the world and most of those reproductions are bad: oversaturated, cropped, printed on paper thin enough to read a hand through, and sold with a vague story about the artist that has nothing to do with the picture in front of you.

MonetMall is a small attempt at the other thing. Twenty-five works, each printed at one size on one substrate, with the museum that holds the original named on the page and four reference articles behind it. We do not sell a thousand skus and we do not pretend a print is an original.

The source files

Every work here is in the public domain: Monet died in 1926, and the copyright term has expired everywhere that matters. Images come from museum open-access programmes and public-domain archives. Where a museum asserts rights over its own photography we either license it or use a different source — we do not scrape and hope.

Printing

Pigment ink on 380 gsm cotton canvas, printed to order in the United States. Rolled prints ship in rigid tubes with a stretching border; framed prints are stretched on pine, floated in a 2 cm frame and glazed. Each piece is checked before it leaves.

What we are not

We are not a gallery, not an editions publisher, and not a financial adviser. Nothing here appreciates. If you want an original Monet, the Musée Marmottan and the Orangerie are the places to look; what we sell is a good copy of a great picture, priced like a good copy.
